February - 2009
Welcome to South Portland American Little League, it is incredible to think we are off to our 56th season! Even more incredible that we are focused on a sport that seems far from our minds given the cold temperatures that we have been facing these last few months. But be assured even though our snow banks are piled high and it is February the 2009 Little League Season is off and running.
2009 registration has been busy with over 100 girls and boys already registered for the many levels of baseball and softball. I encourage you to take advantage of the on-line registration and get your son or daughter signed up for the 2009 season. Early registration enables our volunteer coaches and managers to get rosters in place, order uniforms and set-up schedules for the season.
There is a lot that happens in the background to run a successful Little League, it takes countless volunteer hours to set-up and comply with Little League International. Our dedicated volunteer base works all year long to secure sponsors and other funding, to prepare the fields, take uniform and equipment inventory and prepare a Safety Plan for the League. I cannot thank the Board of Directors enough for the time and energy they give to SPALL.
SPALL depends on the generosity of its volunteers for coaching, umpiring, and administration. When registering this year, please consider assisting SPALL meet its mission of providing a quality sports experience for the boys and girls of South Portland. GET INVOLVED!
Thank you to all of our South Portland families that are involved in this great league, I look forward to seeing you at the Field Days that are scheduled for April 18th & 19th remember you can volunteer for one hour, two hours or the whole day and we will officially kick off the season on Opening Day which is set for May 2nd at the VFW Field.
