| Scarborough- The South Portland American Girls completed a truly wonderful run to capture the District Six 11/12 softball tournament. With victories over Deering –Bayside,Cumberland North Yarmouth, Westbrook, Cape Elizabeth, Gray New Gloucester, and two major wins over South Portland National(1 to 0 and 7 to 5) for the title , completed the amazing run. SPALL was defeated 2 to 1 by SPNLL early on and had to come out of the Loser’s bracket to do it. Riding the rocket arm and howitzer hitting of Taylor Whaley, American did just that. The ace righty collected five wins and many hits in the tournament to lead American, which finished 7 and 1 overall in the tournament. However, all the players were responsible for this accomplishment. Consider the following; Michelle Medici’s stellar play at first base and game winning hit and RBI against National on Sunday. Laurine German and Alyssa Penny combining for many defensive plays at third and short , hits, and stolen bases. Lauren Despins complete 7 to 5 game victory in the final against National to finish with a 2 and 0 record in the tournament. Key plays and hits by Akadia Higgins,Lexi Gervais,Paige Carter, Michelle Moreau, Abby Young, Hannah Skeffington, Markie Amadei, and of course the great catching of the concrete wall behind the dish that is Kiley Kennedy, help propel the group to success. The girls will be off to Auburn for the states this week. This will be the second trip in as many years for a number of the girls. Good Luck!
